Why So Many Young People Are Dropping Like Flies?

I am rather surprised too. So many young people, some who are aggressive gym-going seemingly healthy people, are being afflicted with heart disease or something. And apparently, it's quite on the rise.

Just 2 weeks back, my mom told me about a young man who went to the same gym as her passed away quite suddenly from heart attack. One of her instructors had wisdom on this: while you are working out on the outside, it doesn't mean the inside is just the same! What you eat does matter.

And today, my brother mentioned something else to me that I believe is the truth! That many young people today don't honor their parents.

He related about what our Pastor mentioned before (this was before I joined the church) about the malady afflicting the young people today (just for the record, I am young too.. 40 years too much!).

In Exodus 20:12, God says:

12 "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you." (NIV)

And again in Deuteronomy 5:16 :

16 "Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the LORD your God is giving you." (NIV)

The thing to note, as our Pastor mentioned, is that this is the only commandment with a promise! Because of wrong attitude towards their parents, they inadvertently push God's hand from blessing their lives.

It's not God striking them. But rather, it's them, like an wide open goal post, allowing poison that opens doors for many other things to take place in their lives.

This is a reminder to us Christians who tend to honor our Pastors and ministers more than our parents or even our family - for the sake of ministry, apparently!

The promises are not just about having a strong healthy life, it is about having a good prosperous life too.

How many of us do really honor our parents or do we just think they're a nuisance? It's not just today or tomorrow or for their birthdays. It's a honorable service for life, with a promise for life itself!

Only we ourselves can choose for long life or a very bad end.

Have a blast!

Josh
